What if the biggest thing blocking your blessings isn’t your lack of effort—but your pride?
That’s a bold statement, but stay with me. We often think that success—whether in our careers, relationships, or faith—is about doing more, working harder, and proving ourselves. But the Bible tells a different story. It tells us that faith and humility unlock favor, while pride shuts the door.
Faith: The Currency of Heaven
We receive nothing from God without faith. Faith is what brings salvation, what moves mountains, and what unlocks the blessings God has for us. Jesus constantly reminded people, “According to your faith, be it unto you.” Notice He didn’t say, “According to My power” or “According to My love.”
But faith is more than just believing. It’s trusting God enough to act on His Word. Faith moves us to love, to obey, and to wait with hope. Faith says, “Even though I don’t see it yet, I trust that God is working.”
That’s why faith and love go hand in hand. Faith isn’t just about receiving blessings; it’s about serving, forgiving, and living with purpose. But there’s another key ingredient that holds all of this together—humility.
Humility: The Foundation of Favor
Pride is sneaky. It can disguise itself as self-sufficiency, as confidence, even as faith. But here’s the warning sign: when we stop depending on God and start relying on ourselves, pride has taken root. And the Bible makes it clear—God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
Lucifer fell because of pride. He wanted to elevate himself above God. But Jesus, the very Son of God, humbled Himself. He didn’t demand recognition. He didn’t boast about His power. Instead, He submitted—first to His earthly parents, then to His mission, and ultimately to the cross. And because He humbled Himself, God exalted Him.
Humility is about seeing yourself as God sees you—not as less than, not as more than, but exactly as He has made you. It’s about knowing that every blessing, every gift, every opportunity comes from Him.
The Danger of Blessings Without Humility
Many people pray for favor, but what happens when they receive it? Blessings can lead to pride if we’re not careful. Instead of drawing us closer to God, they can make us feel independent. That’s why faith and humility must go together. We trust God for His provision, but we also recognize that without Him, we have nothing.
Look at King Saul. He started with humility, but success led to disobedience. He thought he knew better than God, offering sacrifices He was never asked to give, sparing what God commanded to be destroyed. And in the end, he lost everything. Contrast that with Moses—who, despite leading an entire nation, was described as the most humble man on earth. And because he walked in humility, God defended him when others rose against him.
How to Grow in Favor Through Humility

- Let God fight your battles – When falsely accused, remain silent and trust God to defend you. Just like Moses, who didn’t justify himself when his siblings spoke against him—God stepped in.
- Seek advice and correction – Pride says, “I already know.” Humility asks, “What can I learn?” Even Moses took advice from his father-in-law on leadership. Be teachable.
- Resist temptation by submitting to God – Joseph fled from temptation, refusing to compromise. Obedience isn’t just about doing good things—it’s about doing what God asks.
- Handle disappointment with trust – When prayers go unanswered or life doesn’t go as expected, don’t blame God. Stay faithful, knowing His timing is perfect.
- Acknowledge when you’re wrong – The four most powerful words in any relationship? “I was wrong.” Pride waits for the other person to apologize. Humility takes the first step.
The Reward of Humility
Jesus said, “Whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” God’s favor isn’t about getting what we deserve—it’s about receiving what we never could earn on our own. When we walk in faith and humility, we position ourselves for His blessings. Not just material wealth, but true prosperity—peace, joy, and purpose.
