Anchor Verse
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
In a Nutshell
God has created each of us with unique purpose and calling, but we often miss it when our minds are distracted by the endless stream of content competing for our attention.
Unpacking the Word
The word “workmanship” in Ephesians 2:10 comes from the Greek word poiema, from which we get our word “poem.” You are God’s masterpiece, carefully crafted with intention and purpose. This stands in stark contrast to how we often view ourselves through the lens of social media—constantly comparing, never quite measuring up.
When our minds are renewed, we begin to see ourselves as God sees us—not as consumers of content, but as creators of impact. The “good works” mentioned aren’t random acts of kindness, but specific purposes God has prepared for each of us. These purposes often lie beyond our screens, in the real world where we can make tangible differences in others’ lives.
The phrase “prepared beforehand” reveals that God has already thought about your purpose. Before social media existed, before you were born, God had plans for how your unique gifts and personality could contribute to His kingdom work.
Pause and Reflect
- How much of your time is spent consuming versus creating or contributing?
- What unique gifts or experiences has God given you that could serve others?
- What “good works” might God be calling you to that you’ve been too distracted to notice?
