Wednesday: Breaking Through the Barriers

Anchor Verse:

2 Samuel 5:20 (NIV) “The Lord has broken out against my enemies before me like a breakthrough of water.”

In a Nutshell:

The sermon revealed how praise leads to breakthrough (Gihon), showing that just as Judah (praise) precedes Perez (breakthrough), our praise positions us for God’s intervention.

Unpacking the Word:

In the natural world, water is one of the most powerful forces for breaking through barriers. Given enough time and persistence, water can carve through solid rock, creating magnificent canyons. Similarly, the sermon taught us that spiritual breakthrough often follows the same principle – persistent praise and declaration of God’s truth eventually breaks through any obstacle.

The connection between Judah (praise) and Perez (breakthrough) isn’t just coincidental – it’s prophetic. Just as water builds pressure before breaking through, our consistent praise builds spiritual pressure against the barriers we face. Whether these barriers are physical, emotional, or spiritual, they cannot withstand the persistent flow of God’s presence released through praise.

The sermon emphasized that breakthrough isn’t always instantaneous. Like a seed breaking through its shell, there’s often an unseen process happening beneath the surface. During this time, our job isn’t to dig up the seed to check its progress, but to keep “watering” it with praise and declarations of faith.

Water flows most powerfully when it’s channeled in one direction. Similarly, our breakthrough often comes when we maintain focused, consistent praise despite circumstances. This isn’t about volume or intensity, but about persistence and faith-filled expectation.

Remember, as mentioned in the sermon, faith isn’t denying the existence of problems – it’s denying their authority to rob us of our peace and joy. When we maintain this perspective, we position ourselves for breakthrough.

Pause and Reflect:

  • What barriers in my life seem most immovable right now?
  • How consistent has my praise been while waiting for breakthrough?
  • What would it look like to maintain peace while still acknowledging my challenges?

Faith in Action:

  1. Identify your biggest challenge and write down three promises from Scripture that address it.
  2. Spend 10 minutes declaring these promises over your situation.
  3. Look for opportunities today to encourage others who are waiting for their breakthrough.

A Moment with God:

Focus your prayer on surrendering your timeline for breakthrough, asking God to help you trust His perfect timing while maintaining a heart of praise.
