Friday: Humility and the Fear of the Lord

Anchor Verse:

Proverbs 22:4 (NIV) – “Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”

In a Nutshell:

True strength comes from walking in humility and reverence before God. When we surrender to Him, we find wisdom, peace, and direction.

Unpacking the Word:

Humility isn’t something the world celebrates, but it’s something God values deeply. In a culture that promotes self-promotion, God calls us to surrender, trust, and walk in humility.

Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less. It’s recognizing that every good thing comes from God and living with a posture of gratitude and dependence on Him.

The fear of the Lord isn’t about being afraid of God. It’s about having deep reverence for who He is and aligning our lives with His wisdom. When we live this way, God promises to bless us with true riches—ones that go far beyond money. Riches of peace, honor, and a life that’s fully aligned with His purpose.

Pause and Reflect:

  • In what areas of your life do you need to practice more humility?
  • How does having a reverence for God shape the way you make decisions?
  • What would it look like for you to trust God’s wisdom over your own understanding?

Faith in Action:

  • Choose one practical way to walk in humility today, whether it’s serving someone, asking for advice, or admitting a mistake.
  • Meditate on Proverbs chapter twenty-two, verse four and ask God to help you live with a heart of humility.
  • Before making a decision today, take a moment to seek God’s wisdom rather than leaning on your own understanding.

A Moment With God:

Lord, teach me to walk in humility and trust Your wisdom above my own. Help me to honor You in all that I do and to live a life that reflects Your love and grace. Amen.u more each day and walk in faith instead of fear. Amen.
