Wednesday: Hearing God in the Stillness

Anchor Verse:

Psalm 46:10 (NIV) – “Be still, and know that I am God.”

In a Nutshell:

God often speaks in stillness, but are we listening? Learning to quiet our hearts allows us to hear His voice more clearly.

Unpacking the Word:

In a noisy world filled with distractions, it can be hard to hear God. Yet, Scripture repeatedly calls us to be still and recognize His voice. Pastor Cornelio’s sermon highlighted how Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray. If Jesus needed stillness, how much more do we?

We tend to expect God to speak in dramatic ways, but He often whispers. Elijah experienced this when God spoke in a “gentle whisper” rather than in a mighty wind, earthquake, or fire (1 Kings 19:11-12).

Stillness is not just about silence; it’s about positioning our hearts to listen. When we intentionally remove distractions, we create space for God to speak. He wants to guide, comfort, and reveal His will to us—but we must be ready to hear.

Pause and Reflect:

  • When was the last time you truly paused to listen for God’s voice?
  • How can you create a habit of stillness in your daily life?
  • What might God be speaking to you right now?

Faith in Action:

  • Set a timer for five minutes, close your eyes, and simply listen for God in the silence.
  • Take a prayer walk without music or distractions, letting God speak through creation.
  • Read a Psalm slowly, pausing after each verse to reflect and listen.

A Moment With God:

Pray for the discipline to seek God in stillness. Ask Him to quiet your heart so you can hear His voice more clearly. with His freedom. Invite the Holy Spirit to transform your heart and mind.
