You’re alive, but are you truly living? There’s a profound difference between merely surviving the day-to-day and stepping into the abundant, overflowing life Jesus promised. What if the key isn’t in what you own or achieve, but in who you’re connected to? Could it be that real life is found not in physical substance, but in spiritual substance?
Anchor Verse (NIV)
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10.
Unpacking the Word
Pastor Reuben reminded us that “man shall not live by bread alone.” It’s a powerful statement that challenges our modern obsession with physical well-being. We track our steps, count our calories, and optimize our sleep, believing these things are the source of life. They are good, but they are not the source. They are maintenance for the vessel, not fuel for the soul. True, abundant life—the kind that overflows with peace and joy even in chaos—isn’t manufactured through discipline alone.
This “life to the full” is a direct result of God’s presence. It’s a tangible peace that doesn’t make sense logically and a resilient joy that isn’t tied to circumstances. It’s like the difference between a battery-operated toy and one plugged into the mains. One eventually runs out of power, while the other has a constant, unending source. When we depend on our own efforts, we’re running on batteries. When we plug into His presence, we tap into an infinite supply.
Faith in Action
- In which area of my life am I relying on “bread alone” (my own effort, health, or finances) for my sense of security and life?
- When was the last time I felt a peace that my circumstances couldn’t explain? What was I focused on in that moment?
Action Step: For the next 24 hours, start every task (big or small) with a one-sentence prayer: “Lord, be my source of life in this.”
A Moment With God
“Jesus, I choose You as my source. Teach me the difference between just getting by and living the abundant life You offer. Let me experience Your presence as my reality today. Amen.”
