In a Nutshell
Not everyone who comes into your life is meant to stay forever, and that’s okay. Some people are seasonal—they’re in your story for a specific chapter, to teach you something crucial, then they move on. The key is learning to distinguish between mentors who build you up and tormentors who tear you down, and having the wisdom to know when it’s time to move forward.
Anchor Verse (NIV)
“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” – Proverbs 15:22
Unpacking the Word
Moses stammered, but God gave him Aaron to speak for him. Aaron complemented what Moses lacked, and together they led Israel out of Egypt. Ruth had Naomi, who guided her from widowhood to marriage with Boaz. These were mentoring relationships that changed destinies.
But not every relationship is meant to be permanent. The sermon mentions that relationships can be seasonal—some people are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Learning to discern which is which saves you from trying to force connections that have fulfilled their purpose or holding onto relationships that have become toxic.
Faith in Action
- Who are the mentors in my life right now, and am I fully receiving their wisdom?
- Are there any relationships I’m trying to force that may have served their season?
- Action Step: Thank a mentor who has influenced your life, and honestly evaluate if any current relationships need healthy boundaries.
A Moment With God
“God, thank You for the mentors You’ve placed in my life. Give me wisdom to recognize when relationships are seasonal and grace to let go when necessary. Help me also be a good mentor to others who need guidance. Amen.”
