June 18: Wednesday: “Relationship Over Performance 👨‍👧‍👦❤️”

In a Nutshell

Every earthly father blesses his children not because they earn it, but simply because they belong to him. From day one, a child receives love, provision, and protection—not for performance, but for relationship. How much more does your Heavenly Father pour out goodness on you simply because you’re His?

Anchor Verse (NIV)

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” – 1 John 3:1

Unpacking the Word

A newborn baby contributes nothing to the household except dirty diapers and sleepless nights, yet parents pour out endless love, resources, and care. Why? Not because the baby earned it, but because of relationship. This mirrors our Heavenly Father’s heart toward us—His goodness flows not from our performance but from His paternal love.

The world operates on exchange: you give something to get something. But fatherhood operates on inheritance: you receive because you belong. This revolutionizes how we approach God. We don’t have to perform for His attention, earn His favor, or prove our worth. Like the joke about the child who was only good when he wanted something, we might think we need to “be good” to receive God’s goodness. But the Father’s heart says, “You’re blessed because you’re Mine.”

Faith in Action

Where am I still trying to earn God’s love through performance? How would my prayers change if I truly believed His goodness flows from relationship, not achievement? Action Step: Spend time today simply enjoying God’s presence without asking for anything—rest in being His child.

A Moment With God

“Daddy, thank You that Your love for me isn’t based on what I do but on who I am to You. Help me rest in being Your beloved child. Amen.”
