We all have different versions of ourselves: the work version, the family version, the church version. But what if God is calling you to be just one person? Integrity isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being whole—the same person in the prayer closet as you are in the boardroom. It’s about dropping the masks and daring to be authentically you, wherever you are.
Anchor Verse (NIV)
“By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life.” – Proverbs 22:4.
Unpacking the Word
Integrity, as Pastor Reuben explained, comes from the word “integer”—a whole number, not a fraction. It’s a life without spiritual split-personality disorder. The temptation to compromise is immense. We want to be accepted, to fit in, to not make waves. So we put on our “sheep clothing” at church and our “goat clothing” with our non-believing friends, sounding and acting just like them. But Jesus modeled a different way. He ate with sinners without becoming like them. He was light, and light doesn’t become darkness to influence it; it shines in it.
The key to this wholeness is found in Proverbs 22:4: humility and the fear of the Lord. Humility is knowing who you are in Christ—a beloved child. You don’t need the approval of others because you already have the Father’s. The fear of the Lord isn’t terror; it’s a deep reverence and respect that makes His opinion the only one that truly matters. When you are secure in your identity and prioritize His view, the pressure to compromise your character for acceptance fades away.
Faith in Action
- In what environment am I most tempted to put on a “mask” and hide my true Christian identity?
- Who in my life (spouse, kids, co-workers) would say I am the exact same person at home as I am in public?
Action Step:
Identify one area where you tend to compromise (e.g., your language, your entertainment choices, staying silent). Choose to honor God in that specific area this week.
A Moment With God
“Lord, I don’t want to live a fractured life. Give me the courage to walk in integrity, secured by my identity as Your child. Make me a whole and authentic reflection of You. Amen.”
